Wayland Public Schools Groomer Sex Ed Forces Kids to Parrot Woke Ideology
WPS parents, your district is turning your kids into little rainbow automatons. It's time to take a stand.
It was a warm July day when the Massachusetts Family Institute Sex Ed Map project team made a chilling discovery: the Wayland Public Schools was trying to compel student speech.
While reviewing Wayland’s sex ed curriculum, returned to MFI from a public records request, they discovered the following slide in an 8th grade lesson:
Not only was the teacher using the unscientific and ideologically-driven terms “person with a uterus” and “person with a penis,” they were telling students they “expect you to please do the same.” These “terminology ground rules” were meant to be followed whenever students have a question or comment.
MFI knew that this chilling discovery could actually chill, and possibly compel, the speech of students who for religious, philosophical or other convictional reasons could not in good faith follow these “rules.” What would happen to a student who declined to use the approved vocabulary? Would they be punished for saying “male” and “female,” the same terms that have been used to describe humans since the beginning of time? MFI’s General Counsel, Attorney Whiting, knew that this lesson threatened to violate the constitutional rights of students, so he sent (then Interim) Superintendent David Fleishman the following letter notifying him that the WPS lesson as presented could lead to a First Amendment lawsuit and recommended that the district revise their curriculum.
To view the letter and attachments that include exhibits from the problematic curriculum, click HERE.
Did Superintendent Fleishman respond to Attorney Whiting’s letter, to acknowledge that the lesson was changed, or even just to acknowledge receipt? He did not. In fact, several months went by and MFI received no response from Superintendent Fleishman or Wayland Public Schools.
(School administrators, lean in close, because we’re going to let you in on a little secret. When you get an email from an attorney, or an organization that serves the public interest like MFI, or even just an email from a parent themselves asking for important information, it behooves you to respond. If you don’t respond, you are forcing the sender of that email to make a choice - either drop the topic entirely, or push harder for an answer. If it was important enough for them to take the time to contact you, it’s probably not a topic they will drop. Don’t make them push harder.)
Because the district never acknowledged Attorney Whiting’s email, MFI did not know if the rights of Wayland students were being protected. The only way for them to find out was to submit a new public records request for the Wayland Middle School sex ed curriculum to see if the compelled speech language had been removed. So, in September, they did.
You can view the results of both records requests HERE.
We took a look at the new information MFI received, and we discovered that, while the 8th grade slide directly referenced in Attorney Whiting’s letter was no longer in use, that same language still existed in a different part of the 8th grade curriculum (see below). As of this school year, 8th graders at Wayland Middle School are still in danger of having their First Amendment rights violated and their speech compelled to parrot wokespeak.

But that’s not the only interesting new information we found. There was another new 6th grade lesson returned as part of the September 2024 request. This slideshow was all about LGBTQ sexuality and gender ideology. You can see the slides here:
We encourage you to watch all of the videos in this slideshow to get a full understanding of just exactly how kids are being groomed into thinking that gender ideology, including identities like “pansexual” and “genderqueer,” is normal. And not only is it normal, if you want to be a good person, you need to be a good “ally.”
Don’t have time to watch them all right now? Here is our summary.
First, after being introduced to a bevy of sexuality flags, 6th graders watch “Defining LGBTQ,” a video that teaches young students that “sexual orientation is who you go to bed WITH, and gender identity is who you go to bed AS.”

This video also tells them (amongst other things) that you fall under the LGBTQ umbrella if you are “questioning” (defined as “people who are wondering whether or not they belong in the queer community or are still questioning their gender identity or sexual preference”) or “two-spirit” (defined as “people who display both female and male qualities whether in their personality, sexuality, or gender identity”).
It’s almost as if they are saying, “Hey kids - not sure if you belong in the “queer community?” That means you do. Are you a girl who is analytical or a boy who is sensitive? You might be two-spirit.”
Is there any wonder why kids are confused?
Then students as young as 11 are presented with “The Gender Unicorn by Pop’n’Olly,” which introduces that now famous cutesy ideological-Trojan-horse Unicorn, and tells kids that your gender identity is “what you know that you truly are, because you can just feel it.”
This video also teaches that even the concept of biological sex, often (falsely) referred to as “sex assigned at birth,” has at least four possible options.
These are only two of the bizarre, unscientific notions presented authoritatively as fact in this video. There are many, many more. Speaking of more, we would be remiss if we didn’t point out that this video is from Olly Pike, a British man in his late 30’s who is fond of wearing cat ears and talking about sexuality to children. His channel, which kids may be tempted to look up on their own and could easily find on YouTube, includes dozens of videos with titles like: “All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” and “Story Forest with Mr. Gay Europe.”
Following these videos students are treated to a propaganda slide from GLSEN, the Gender Unicorn graphic itself and a third video, “5 Tips for Being an Ally.” Over upbeat background music a cheerful woman tells them that to be a good ally they must: “understand (their) privilege,” “listen and do (their) homework,” “speak up but not over,” “stay in (their) lane,” and “do the work.”
Then the last slide asks, “Ok 6th graders, how can you be an ally?”
In other words, how can you prove your allegiance to the radical ideology you just heard? Do you want to be under the LGBTQ umbrella? Or do you want to be a good ally to those who are?
No third option is presented.
What might the classroom discussion sound like after such a lesson is presented? We can only imagine.
But even before 6th graders are pushed to join Team LGBTQ or Team Ally, they had already been introduced to some of these concepts.
We know this because the curriculum that MFI received via its original public records request in July included the 5th grade puberty slideshow, which teaches:

Puberty is one of the most confusing times in any young person’s life. Bodies change, hormones are in flux, developing brains are awash in a cocktail of new and convoluted feelings. Into that mix steps the WPS, telling impressionable 10-year-olds that while your identity can be reduced to your genitalia in one respect (you’re not a girl, you’re a “person with a uterus!”), your genitalia is utterly meaningless as to whether you are actually a girl, boy, or something else entirely. The gender binary is now declared “FALSE!,” and students are informed that in order to make all students feel included, gender neutral terms are now necessary.
Translation? Hey, boys and girls… there’s no such thing as boys and girls. Unless, of course, a boy says he is really a girl, and in that case he most certainly is one, and it would be FALSE (not to mention unkind) to say otherwise.
Make it make sense.

The more of the Wayland curriculum we read, the more we realized that what began with MFI’s investigation into a compelled speech issue had actually revealed something much darker.
In 5th grade, Wayland students are taught that the gender binary isn’t real. In 6th grade they are instructed on pride flags, diverse sexualities, and why “allyship” is key. By the time they reach 8th grade, a teacher requiring them to say “person with a penis” feels normal because they’ve already been groomed into accepting progressive genderspeak.
Maybe this is why Superintendent Fleishman, who previously served in notorious-for-drag-queens-in-schools Newton, doesn’t appear to be concerned about this curriculum. Maybe he does not object to potentially compelling the speech of 8th graders, when it is done in the name of being a good little “ally.” Or maybe he doesn’t think any of their 8th graders would be unhappy to comply with their I-expect-you-to-say-person-with-a-uterus directive. After all, why would Wayland Middle School students object to using this awkward, dehumanizing language? They have been brainwashed into doing so since elementary school.
Compelling student speech is against the law, and the law must be upheld. But misrepresenting the very nature of human biology and what it means to be male or female, right at the age when students are most vulnerable? And then confusing those students and pressuring them to choose a sexualized identity all while conditioning them to suppress their own beliefs in the name of not offending the fragile identities of their peers? That feels much worse. There’s no law against that, but there should be.
In fairness, Wayland is not the only district guilty of this sort of biological-misinformation-drip-campaign. This manner of ideological grooming is a known phenomenon. But since Wayland has been publicly facing major legal issues, including a $5 million dollar discrimination lawsuit from Fleishman’s predecessor, one would think they would be the district most highly motivated to avoid potential legal trouble and protect the First Amendment rights of their students.
Unless, of course, their administration has nothing better to do than spend time and district resources on (more) lawsuits.
WPS parents, the ball is in your court. MFI tried to warn the WPS administration their practices could violate students’ rights, and they failed to demonstrate they care. What comes next is up to you. Review the material that MFI received via public record request from your district, keeping in mind that this is ONLY the curriculum used for sex ed. If the WPS is demanding fealty to the rainbow religion in this area, they likely are integrating these same ideas into other areas of the curriculum too.
Do you have a child that attends Wayland Public Schools? Opt them out of puberty/sex education. But whether you opt out or not, if your child is compelled to use language that violates his or her conscience or your family’s beliefs, Attorney Whiting wants to hear from you. You can reach him here.
Not in Wayland? This warning applies to you, too. The topics being taught in Wayland are being taught across MA. Many parents assume their children will tell them if they are forced to say something they don’t believe, but LGBTQ ideology has become normalized that sometimes kids don’t mention it once they get home. Parents must be proactive. Check out MFI’s Sex Ed Map to check if there is information about what is going on in your district. Talk to your kids and find out if their speech is being compelled, or if they are being forced to say or pledge things that violate their beliefs. If they are, contact Attorney Whiting.
Students should not be groomed into accepting controversial sexual ideology and gender confusion, but they are. Students should not be compelled to repeat progressive buzzwords and demonstrate assent to concepts that violate their faith and beliefs as a part of the school day, but it happens. School administrators and educators should be vigilant about protecting their students’ constitutional rights, but sometimes they’re not. Sometimes parents need to push back. And sometimes that push back includes getting lawyers involved.
Wayland Public School, there’s still time to change your grooming ways and protect the rights of your students. But if you continue to create an environment where student speech is compelled, the next legal letter you get might be one you can’t ignore.
When that happens, just remember. We tried to warn you.
