This Week's MIP Digest
GLAAD's List of Children's Shows with Gender Ideology, "There Are Only Two Genders" Update, MIP is on Boston.com, and more.
It’s time for another edition of the MIP Digest!
The MIP Digest is a regular feature where we share the great information that has been posted to the MIP Facebook group during the previous week. The MIP Digest won’t capture all of the interesting comments and conversations that happen in the Facebook group, but it will include the highlights and provide a quick overview of the content, in case you missed it.
First, here are the posts from our Admins:
New report from GLAAD lists kids programs that contain gender ideology (and hint: it's not just Transformers)
Last week, a MIP member shared a post about a nonbinary character on the new Transformers: Earth Spark series. This series not only introduced kids to gender ideology and pronouns, but it also informed impressionable young viewers that anyone who doesn't support these ideas is unsafe.
Today we have uncovered information on other shows that contain gender ideology and diverse sexualities. These shows are not advertised as containing these elements, so parents might not know until it is too late. We want to share this information with you so you can prepare your kids for ideas they may confront unexpectedly while watching TV (or protect them from it entirely).
GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) has released their 2022-2023 "Where We Are on TV" report, and it has a section on "Representation in Kids & Family Programming." It lists the Transformers: Earth Spark, but also mentions other shows that air on the Disney Channel, Disney Jr., Netflix, and Paramount+.
See the narrative on the picture below for this full section of the report. And to read the entire report, click HERE.
GLAAD issues this report annually, and past years reports are available on their website at the link below. Since the availability of streaming services allows for viewers to easily access shows that aired in past years, we recommend scanning past reports as well for information on gender ideology in children's programming. Click HERE and scroll down for a link to reports from previous years.
In today's world, it is inevitable that your child will eventually be exposed to gender ideology or diverse sexualities. But YOU should be the person who decides what your child learns, and when - not Netflix or Paramount+! So be informed about what other ideas are being injected into children's programming so that you can be the decision-maker. And if you find out about other shows that aren't on this list, leave a comment on this post with the name of other shows so that other parents can make an informed choice.
MIP Mentioned on Boston.com
The MA Library Association is objecting to MIP's efforts to inform parents of objectionable and harmful content in books for minors. In this article they mention our recent Substack post about the pornographic book, "Let's Talk About It."
Interesting that although Boston.com included two links to content on our Substack site they neglected to link our post about "Let's Talk About It." I wonder why? Could it be because the pictures from the book that we exposed depicting people masturbating and having anal and oral sex and showing naked trans bodies demonstrated the promotion of porn for kids?
Including that link would have indicted the MLA for their lack of judgment and would have shown the public exactly what kind of books MIP and concerned parents are objecting to.
Can reason please return to the public square? Seriously. Parents and concerned citizen groups who are trying to protect children from sexualization are not asking for book bans. We are asking that our public institutions paid for with our tax dollars STOP sexualizing children.
It’s time to seek library and government positions in local municipalities and work to implement policies that safeguard minors from efforts to sexualize them.
