Scholastic's new "Read with Pride" guide says the quiet part out loud. (Hint: They're grooming kids.)
Mom and Dad - no kid needs a Smencil this bad. Just say NO to Scholastic.
Scholastic Book Fairs are held all the time in MA schools (check out this link to see if one is coming up at your school). If you’re like us, you probably have fond memories of book fairs from when you were a kid (Smencils! Bookmarks! And the thrill of new books!), yet today's book fairs are NOT the same as what we remember.
In 2024, if you send your child to a Scholastic Book Fair today with a crisp $10 bill in hand, they might come home with a book that teaches them about gender confusion or diverse sexualities. What's worse is, you might not even be able to tell by looking at the book cover, if it includes those sorts of topics!
Finding those topics in your child's book might surprise you, mom and dad, but it's no surprise to Scholastic. Scholastic knows exactly what it's doing. Not only do they know what they are doing, in true “pride” month form, they are PROUD of it! In fact, they even released a “Read with Pride” resource guide, written quite coincidentally by a MA children’s librarian (if you live in Somerville… you’re gonna want to skip the children’s activities at your local library, FWIW.)
Check out these pages from the "Scholastic LGBTQIA+ Book List," found on the last few pages of the Guide:
These are books that Scholastic is actively promoting that contain discussions about sexual attraction, transgender identities, and other confusing and age-inappropriate topics related to human sexuality.
If this book list was the only disturbing thing in the Read with Pride Guide, well, that would be enough for sane parents to be alarmed. But unfortunately, it isn’t.
Remember when conservatives, or other common-sense folks, used to get laughed at when we would say that wokesters intentionally seed their activist agenda into kids minds by inserting “queer” characters into books, tv shows, and other forms of media? And they said it was just for “representation,” so that some kids don’t get bullied?
Well, now they admit that they intend on “expanding” the way your child thinks about these topics right in their Guide.
"Books and literature are never neutral; by engaging with queer literature for children and young adults, you are disrupting the status quo that implies being cisgender, heterosexual, and allosexual are the default. You are showing children an expanded way of thinking and being that validates all children and all people."
In other words, the ideologues at Scholastic believe children are sexual - that they can be "queer." Not only are they aware that their books introduce these destabilizing adult topics to kids, but it's also their entire goal to do so.
They also think it's totally normal for your kids to wonder if they are "allocishet," "biromantic," or "pansexual," and they want your child's teachers to be prepared to actively engage them on the topic.
If that’s not enough, they want teachers to be provided with resources that help them facilitate a social transition for your child, and your knowledge or consent is not required. (Gender Spectrum does this, and it's the first thing listed on their resource page!)
As Maya Angelou said, "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time." Some of us already knew how far Scholastic had fallen, but for those who didn't, now you do.
But don’t take our word for it, read the whole Guide. Scholastic has since taken this off of their website, but we still have it here.
Next time the Scholastic Book Fair comes to your school, don't give them your money. Even better, tell your district that you won't be participating in any future book fairs until they use a company that doesn't sexualize kids. Better yet, tell all your friends to do the same.

I used to run the book fair in Wilbraham, MA. I see the book shelves when I go to preschools here in TX. LGBTQ aside, the books are total GARBAGE. There’s nothing classic like a Eric carle book or Frog and Toad are Friends. What a great book series that was! Now it’s all glitter garbage rainbow nonsense eye candy 🍭 junk food in book form.
